​Recovery Centers in North Dakota are daily drop-in centers for adults who are being treated, or have been treated, for mental illness.  Mental Health America of North Dakota (MHAND) sponsors one of these Recovery Centers - Mountainbrooke Recovery Center in Grand Forks.

    Meals: Daily sign up for meals is appreciated ahead of time. 

    Members Meeting: 1st Friday of the month at 1 pm.

    Activities: Daily activities, BINGO, Pinochle Club, Gardening Club, Community Outings, Community Resource gathering, and outdoor activities. We will also be having other activities outside of our core hours and those will be noted on the activity calendars.
    ​We are always looking for new ideas for activities!!

    The goals of the Freedom Center are to create a support system within the community, outside of treatment centers; help members meet their basic needs; provide experiences that promote feelings of self-worth, self-respect, independence, and improve the ability of the consumer to live independently in the community; reduce the incidence of inpatient hospitalization and improve the quality of life for the individual.

    MHAND operates  Mountainbrooke  through a sub-contract from the ND Dept. of Health and Human Services, Behavioral Health Division.   • The Harmony Center

    ​The Harmony Center provides peer support, recovery education, social recreation, and a casual, accepting environment in which to connect with others, who are eighteen years of age and older who self-identify as having a mental health concern that impacts their daily living. Free Through Recovery


Free Through Recovery is a community based behavioral health program designed to increase recovery support services to individuals involved with the criminal justice system who have behavioral health concerns.Free Through Recovery participants will work with local providers to receive:
​
  • Care Coordination: Includes an ongoing source of connection, helping participants access treatment and recovery support services, and creatively addressing barriers to individual success.  It also includes the provision of assessment, care planning, referrals, and monitoring collaboration with clinical services and probation and parole.
​
  • Recovery Services: Includes access to supportive housing, educational opportunities, meaningful employment, leisure activities and wellness, family and community social supports, parenting education, spiritual engagement, nourishment assistance programs, and any other individualized resources needed to help participants lead a healthy and fulfilling life.​
​
  • Peer Support: Connection with a peer who has similar lived experience. Peer support specialists provide mentorship, advocacy and additional recovery support.

Community Connect

Community Connect helps pregnant women, families, caregivers, and individuals by providing a one-stop entry point for needed services, such as housing, employment, financial, parenting, physical health, and community connections.

SERVICES:

Care Coordination
 - a care coordinator assists with short and long-term goals, barriers, and provides a source of connection and support.

Peer Support - a peer support specialist is an individual with similar lived experience that offers hope, support and advocacy.

Recovery Services
 - access to services or programs to assist an individual with meeting their needs and goals.

1915(i) State Plan Amendment

The North Dakota Medicaid 1915(i) State Plan Amendment allows North Dakota Medicaid to pay for additional home and community-based services to support individuals with behavioral health conditions.

Eligible individuals meet each of the following criteria: 
  • Age 0+; and
  • Currently enrolled in ND Medicaid or Medicaid Expansion; and
  • Have a household income at or below 150% of the Federal Poverty Level (revised 4.1.2023); and
  • Receive a WHODAS score of 25 or above (the WHODAS  is a simple assessment that takes approximately 30 minutes to complete. Your WHODAS assessment must have been completed within the past 90 days. If you need a current WHODAS Assessment, the Human Service Zone is one way to receive a current assessment); and
  • Reside in and will receive services in a setting meeting the federal home and community-based setting requirements (home and community-based settings do not include a nursing facility, institution for mental disease, or an intermediate care facility for individuals with intellectual disabilities); and
  • Have a qualifying behavioral health diagnosis (revised 1.1.2022)

Services Available through 1915(i)
The Care Coordinator develops a person-centered plan of care and assists in gaining access to needed 1915i services such as:
  • Training and Support for Unpaid Caregivers - Help for your caregiver to learn ways to support you
  • Community Transition Services - Money to help move into your own home after living in a group home, treatment center, or nursing home
  • Benefits Planning - Help to learn about your benefits and how things change when you get a job in your community
  • Non-Medical Transportation - Rides to activities in your community or to non-medical appointments to help you meet your goals
  • Respite - Short term help for you while your caregiver runs errands or takes care of other needs
  • Pre-Vocational Training - Help for a short time so you can learn work or volunteer skills
  • Supported Education - Help so you can work on your educational goals
  • Supported Employment - Help getting and keeping a job in your community
  • Housing Support - Help so you can move into and/or stay in your own home
  • Family Peer Support - Help for your family members by connecting them with other families who also support their loved ones
  • Peer Support - Help for you from other people who also live with challenges​
